Many thanks to all who helped make the inaugural DC Tweed Ride a smashing success! Dandies & Quaintrelles intends to spend the weeks ahead giving acknowledgment to YOU – the fine and special individuals who volunteered your time for a great cause. We realize that each and every participant deserves recognition for helping to create such a *magical* experience. An impressive and outstanding display of refined behavior, style and grace was demonstrated through the duration of the day – from registration to our post-ride social.

Congratulate yourselves for Dan Zak's feature article on the cover of the Style section in yesterday’s Washington Post as well as for all the other fantastic media coverage. It is our hope that these sort of experiences help to progress our culture and community in a positive and highly fashionable direction, especially in support of causes such as Arts for the Aging (AFTA). A few details we wish to share regarding the vintage-inspired portraits, raffle drawing, Tweed Ride award winners and other items:

Portraits!

Our aim is to have all portraits online and for purchase by next week, and photographer Steven Cummings is working feverishly in his studio to make this happen. We will post a notice on the Dandies & Quaintrelles blog as soon as available (http://dandiesandquaintrelles.blogspot.com). We know that in this age of technical wizardry, people are accustomed to instant turnaround and gratification. Please be patient as we work to make portraits as perfect as possible!

While we expected a few dozen of DC's dapper to turn out on Sunday, the surprise of more than 320 riders provided us with a few challenges on-site, but be it known, dear dandies, we are giving it our best!

Raffle Winners!

On Sunday, we will post a video of the official drawing for all winning tickets. The blog will inform winners of our method of prize distribution.

D&Q will be viewing the complete set of photos to determine the winners of the following four categories:

We had no idea we would have so many folks to choose from; with an abundance of dashing riders, the decision making process for this may be the most difficult aspect of this event!

Wheelmen and Wheelwomen,

On behalf of Dandies and Qauintrelles and all of our faithful volunteers, I would like to thank you for your interest and commitment to participate in D.C.'s first Tweed Ride. We have over 200 folks registered for tomorrow's event! I'm overjoyed with the response to the announcement of this tweed ride! I look forward to seeing everyone in their finest Sunday leisure attire and alongside their prized bicycles! We have a great team of volunteers ready to help with those who have registered and those who will be registering tomorrow morning! Everyone will need to report to the registration table to sign a release form and to provide important information regarding emergency contacts. Expert photographer, Steven Cummings, has his studio prepared for a portrait of each and every rider! We want to encourage everyone to have their photo taken before the ride. We're set up to make this happen as smoothly as possible! Portraits will be made available for purchase to everyone. All proceeds will go to Arts for the Aging!

Please note that we will not send all riders out at one time! Riders will be sent along their way in groups to number no more than 25 to prevent blockage to others sharing the streets with us. I'm sure the excitement amongst cyclists before the ride could cause some to be confused and anxious but do not worry about missing a specific start time. This ride is about the beautiful simplicity and enjoyment of cycling from one place to another in style and grace. This day is about the beauty of pleasure, good taste and interest in noble causes! Our hope is that everyone arrives at the designated destination in great health and good fashion.

Worried abour where to park your steed at the celebration? Temporary Bike Racks will be installed at 14th and U. Compliments of the fine folks from WABA

Their Mission: To create a healthy, more livable region by promoting bicycling for fun, fitness, and affordable transportation; advocating for better bicycling conditions and transportation choices for a healthier environment, and educating children, adults, and motorists about safe bicycling.

A collection of vintage bikes were recently spotted on Craigslist. There are plenty of pics for those on the hunt for suitable steel.

Arts for The Aging (AFTA)

Vintage Style Portraits

Photographer Steven Cummings is preparing his studio for the rider registration and vintage style portraits of all registered wheelmen and wheelwomen. Prints and digital copies will made available for purchase as a keepsake with all profits to benefit Arts for the Aging.

D.C. Tweed Ride!

Washington D.C.'s first ever tweed ride is set to begin on November 15, 2009. Our reason is pleasure and style. Our cause is Arts for the Aging, Inc. (AFTA).

Some of you have been waiting for a tweed ride in D.C. Others are confused and uncertain of its point. We'll let points be made by politicians. Style is our concern. Purposeful amusement is our desire. We saw great style and imagined considerable amusement in the images of tweed rides in other major cities. Use your google skills and see what fun has been had in London, Chicago, San Francisco and Boston.

We'll begin our ride at 11:00 am on 8th and H Street N.E. behind the great bank. There's an appropriately appointed photo studio that has been preparing to capture respectable images of our fashionable participants.

We'll end our ride on 14th and U where Marvin will provide us with nourishment, libations and fine soul. Non riders are welcome to join us in the festivities. If you need any more details on why you should spend a fall Sunday with us in your finest tweeds, you're making too much of a fuss of things.

Leave the fussiness to us and avoid it by appearing on vintage bikes, vintage inspired bikes, fixed geared machines and dapper attire. Leave the fleece, lycra and rugged outer shells at home. This ride is for the dandy!

Don't have a bike, don't worry! Join us for the post ride social at Marvin and enjoy raffles, awards for the dandiest, specialty drinks offered by our sponsor Plymouth Gin -- and wall-to-wall dandies dancing to the finest Britpop and soul this side of the Atlantic!
