Thanks everyone for attending the Seersucker Social!
On behalf of our event’s organizing entities, I want to thank everyone who participated for rising to the occasion by battling the heat, ignoring threatening rain clouds and most of all by looking so incredibly dapper at the Seersucker Social! It was an honor for Dandies and Quaintrelles along with Holly Bass Performance Projects and Hillwood Estates, Museum and Gardens to host the event! A turnout of over 300 cyclists and 450-plus attendees helped to create an experience none of us will soon forget. A sincere congratulations to you all!
The event showcased an impressive display of local style, class, social grace and fine spirit! We also had some participants travel down from areas as far away as New York and Richmond just to join us for the day. Be sure to check out the amazing HD video of the event produced by ReadySet DC and pat yourselves on the back for helping to create the experience. Dandies & Quaintrelles and partners look forward to another grand time with you local folks and out-of-towners. We will continue to develop unique and imaginative ways to promote the bicycle as a classy means of transportation, taking inspiration from stylish eras of the past.
Know that as we host events, we intend to continuing to raise money and awareness for noble causes. The beneficiary of proceeds for the Seersucker Social was The Urban Philharmonic Society. Be sure to visit their website and get an understanding of the good work they do. Also know that the organization's director, Darrold Hunt, is on the lookout for creative and passionate people who can help move forward the mission of The Urban Philiharmonic Society! If you are able to volunteer your time with web development, arts administration and general support, please don't hesitate to contact him! The amount raised for this non-profit will be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, visit Hugh & Crye to see if you've won the raffle by riding your bike to Hillwood and check your e-mail frequently for other prizes from Revolution Cycles to be determined by random e-mail address selection!

Meeting Place, Direction List & Waiver Form
To the most stylishly adventuresome cyclists and alt-retro socialites in town,
We're counting down the final hours before the Seersucker Social Bike Ride and Lawn Party and I hope that everyone has managed to find the pieces needed for an elegant and retro-forward summer look. I cannot wait to see the display of fine breezy fashions. With well over 500 registered riders and 400 dashing folks set to enjoy the post ride festivities, Saturday should be one of the most delightful days of the summer.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the northern section of Meridian Hill Park where we will start the ride at the corner of 15th and Euclid Streets. N.W. at 3:30pm. I've provided links to the bike ride waiver forms and directions for you to print and bring along with you on Saturday. There are two sets per page so you can bring extras along to help your registered friends arrive prepared for fun!
There's a slight chance of a passing rain or thunder shower in the D.C. area but it should not threaten plans for our grand day. In the event that we receive a shower in the area of the ride, we may postpone the starting time by an hour. I have positive feelings about the evening overall and the lawn party is schedule to continue despite the possibility of a passing shower. There will be places for refuge on the Hillwood Estate for those not absolutely committed to continuing an uninterrupted match of badminton or croquette.
As promised, there are two routes planned and a separate set of directions for each. The longer route will avoid the concrete urban areas and mostly wind its way through Rock Creek Park in the shade of trees and amidst cooler temperatures. There were some unavoidable hills at the end of the ride that I encourage folks to tackle with as leisurely a pace as possible. I might even suggest walking for the dandiest of riders. We'll have rejuvenating refreshments waiting for you upon arrival.

The 2009 D.C. Tweed Ride captivated the city last fall with over 450 stylish people on cool bikes who took to the streets decked out in vintage and Edwardian attire. This Spring, Dandies and Quaintrelles teams up with performance artist Holly Bass of Holly Bass Performance Projects to respond with an event tailored to the warmer weather of late spring.
The Seersucker Social, scheduled for Saturday June 12, is set to offer the same delightful kind of unique and alternative entertainment experience by encouraging folks once again to mount their bicycles in high style. While the fall event called for tweed, seersucker has been selected as the ideal vintage fabric of choice to keep cool for the spring ride. Our event partner Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens will provide a fabulous dreamlike setting for the post-ride social.
The starting point and bike route is yet to be determined. Register to ensure you are kept up to date with additional information!

2009 Tweed Ride Studio Portraits!
Attention, Attention!!
We have 85 wonderful portraits posted on-line. If you had a studio portrait taken before your ride, visit the set posted on flickr and search for the image that captures your splendor! If you didn't have a studio portrait taken before the ride, see why you should have one taken before the next ride!
To order prints of these images, visit our on-line portrait request form so we can reach you and work to make the necessary prints available. For those wishing to get prints before the holidays, be sure to us indicate that through the form and we will be sure to print copies for distribution Sunday evening at Marvin. The only way to obtain your portrait before the holidays is to visit us in person on Sunday. The remaining requested portraits will be shipped in the first weeks of the new year.
The cost per print is $20.00. You can make your purchase between 4 and 7pm at Marvin with cash, check or credit. All proceeds minus printing costs are being donated to AFTA. We sincerely appreciate your interest in these prints and your contribution to AFTA's cause!

Post Ride Raffle Drawing!!

To our remarkable Tweed Riders:
Many thanks to all who helped make the inaugural DC Tweed Ride a smashing success! Dandies & Quaintrelles intends to spend the weeks ahead giving acknowledgment to YOU – the fine and special individuals who volunteered your time for a great cause. We realize that each and every participant deserves recognition for helping to create such a *magical* experience. An impressive and outstanding display of refined behavior, style and grace was demonstrated through the duration of the day – from registration to our post-ride social.
Congratulate yourselves for Dan Zak's feature article on the cover of the Style section in yesterday’s Washington Post as well as for all the other fantastic media coverage. It is our hope that these sort of experiences help to progress our culture and community in a positive and highly fashionable direction, especially in support of causes such as Arts for the Aging (AFTA). Please consider becoming a member of AFTA on facebook!
A few details we wish to share regarding the vintage-inspired portraits, raffle drawing, Tweed Ride award winners and other items:
Portraits!
Our aim is to have all portraits online and for purchase by next week, and photographer Steven Cummings is working feverishly in his studio to make this happen. We will post a notice on the Dandies & Quaintrelles blog as soon as available (http://dandiesandquaintrelles.blogspot.com). We know that in this age of technical wizardry, people are accustomed to instant turnaround and gratification. Please be patient as we work to make portraits as perfect as possible!
While we expected a few dozen of DC's dapper to turn out on Sunday, the surprise of more than 320 riders provided us with a few challenges on-site, but be it known, dear dandies, we are giving it our best!
Raffle Winners!
On Sunday, we will post a video of the official drawing for all winning tickets. The blog will inform winners of our method of prize distribution.
